Sept.~ National Sewing Month

National Sewing Month 2016

It’s September already. That means National Sewing Month! Albeit, every month is sewing month around here. I’d also include sewing for service to others this month.

This year I would urge all sewist to add sewing for service to others during this month and find those in need in your area. Cold weather is coming soon. It’s a busy time I know. Children going back to school and holidays are fast on the horizon. A few minutes to sew for others can make a world of difference. Get in a group or create one. Having fun is so much a part of sewing too.

If you’d like, share and tag your makes and giving projects on your fave social media sites with #SeptSew or #nationalsewingmonth.  Be sure to visit American Sewing Guild and Sewing & Craft Alliance who foster National Sewing Month every year.

Cheers

“…Tens of millions of Americans sew at home. Their efforts demonstrate the industry, the skill and the self-reliance which are so characteristic of this Nation.

In recognition of the importance of home sewing to our economy the Congress has, by Senate Joint Resolution 205, designated September, 1982, as National Sewing Month…”

Love hearing from readers! Great suggestion in email from a fellow sewist. Making and donating clothing protectors for hospitals or life care facilities? Sew in a blank label for the staff to write in the persons name and room number. Makes easier for laundry day.

  3. Veronak says:

I’m actually sewing pillows to donate. I’m new to sewing so it’s baby steps for now but next year I’ll be making jackets to donate
