Ready ..set..sew in Sept. ,it’s the law! No, really, Sept is National Sewing Month as designated public law 98-97 by congress passing (H.J.Res 218/S.J.Res 93). Which was sponsored by Rep. Boner, William H. [D-TN-5] (Introduced 03/24/1983) and Sen. East, John P. [R-NC] (Introduced 05/04/1983) respectively. A few months after President Reagan issued Proclamation 4976 in Sept 1982.*
Ok, so it was only the law in 1983 and a few years in the late 80’s, the last official time being in 1994 (H.J.Res. 337 and S.J.Res 165) . But most of the US has celebrated the passion for Sept as National Sewing Month and the folks who teach this skill unofficially every year hence. Lets continue this tradition. Pledge to share your skill and/or make items to share with folks in need. Don’t forget to thank our home-ec teachers and trade skill instructors.
Ready? Get sewing!
What will you sew to share?
*Perhaps we’ll get an official proclamation next year. Hmmmm?
